SpaceX, Elon Musk Hit With New Lawsuit Alleging Wrongful Firings
Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, is facing fresh accusations involving inappropriate behavior with employees, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The report claims that Musk engaged in sexual relationships with two employees, including an intern, and asked another employee to have his babies. These allegations add to a growing list of complaints about Musk’s conduct and the culture within his companies.
New Allegations Emerge
In an exclusive report, the Wall Street Journal highlighted claims from women at Tesla who said they were shown “an unusual amount of attention or pursued” by Musk. A former SpaceX flight attendant alleged that Musk exposed himself to her and offered to buy her a horse in exchange for sex in 2016. Another woman, who resigned from SpaceX in 2013, claimed Musk repeatedly asked her to have his babies.
Drug Use and Hostile Environment
This report follows previous accusations against Musk, including allegations of drug use at work. He has been accused of using substances like LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, mushrooms, and ketamine, sometimes with board members. Additionally, Musk has been criticized for fostering a hostile work environment where jokes about sexual harassment were common, women were paid less than men, and complaints were often dismissed.
Culture of Harassment
Former employees accused Musk of creating a sexist workplace culture at SpaceX and Tesla, where sexual comments and other forms of harassment were tolerated or trivialized. Women employees felt uncomfortable due to this environment, further exacerbated by Musk’s alleged behavior. The Wall Street Journal report includes specific instances where Musk made inappropriate advances towards female employees.
Direct Messages Reveal More
The report also revealed text exchanges between Musk and a woman who worked at SpaceX. Musk repeatedly invited her to his house at night, suggesting a casual and familiar tone. In one message, he wrote, “Come by! Look, it’s either me or 6am [exercise] :)” and later added, “Just finished the Model 3 production call. It’s def going to be hell for several more months.” The woman declined, citing she had fallen asleep, to which Musk responded, “Probably best if we don’t see each other.”
SpaceX’s Defense
In response to the allegations, SpaceX and Musk’s lawyers have dismissed the report, calling it full of “untruths.” Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX’s president and chief operating officer, defended Musk, stating, “The untruths, mischaracterizations, and revisionist history in your email paint a completely misleading narrative. I continue to be amazed by what this extraordinary group of people are achieving every day even amidst all the forces acting against us. And Elon is one of the best humans I know.”
Ongoing Controversy
These new allegations add to the ongoing controversy surrounding Elon Musk and his companies. While Musk has publicly expressed concerns about an underpopulation crisis and the need for high IQ individuals to procreate, these personal beliefs appear to have influenced his interactions with employees, raising serious ethical and legal questions. As the situation develops, the spotlight remains on Musk and how he addresses these troubling claims.
