India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has made a historic 500-aircraft deal with Airbus, surpassing Air India’s recent 470-aircraft agreement. The announcement sets a record in aviation history and signifies a race to tap into India’s expanding base of flyers and substantial expat population. The deal was finalized on June 19 during the Paris Air Show and involved key figures from both IndiGo and Airbus.
This purchase agreement for 500 A320 Family aircraft marks the largest single order in the commercial aviation industry, according to Airbus. With this acquisition, IndiGo’s total order for Airbus aircraft reaches 1,330, solidifying its position as the leading A320 Family customer worldwide. Currently operating over 1,800 daily flights and serving 78 domestic and 20 international destinations, IndiGo boasts a fleet of more than 300 aircraft. With pending deliveries, the airline’s fleet strength will soon reach 480.
