Ranbir Kapoor not summoned by ED as an accused in Mahadev App case; called to understand transactions:
In the ongoing investigation involving the Mahadev gaming app, Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The app is under scrutiny for its alleged involvement in illegal betting activities. Ranbir Kapoor has requested a two-week delay before appearing before the central agency, while it remains uncertain whether Shraddha Kapoor will appear today.
Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma, along with actors Huma Qureshi and Hina Khan, have also been summoned at different times in connection with the Mahadev app case and have similarly asked for a two-week extension. Notably, these celebrities are not designated as accused in the case but will be questioned about their knowledge of payment transactions related to the app’s promoters.
The ED has accused Ranbir Kapoor of receiving substantial payments from the Mahadev app, which allegedly stemmed from illegal betting proceeds. The Mahadev app is accused of providing a platform for illegal betting websites, allowing them to onboard new users, create user IDs, and facilitate money laundering through benami bank accounts.
The app’s promoters, Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, based in Dubai and originally from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, are said to operate multiple such apps and have reportedly made approximately ₹200 crore per day. They have allegedly engaged in significant cash expenditures in India for advertising purposes to attract new users and franchisees.
Recent raids at 39 locations in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bhopal resulted in the seizure of assets worth ₹417 crore, leading to heightened scrutiny of the Mahadev betting app, particularly after a lavish ₹200-crore cash-only wedding in the UAE by Sourabh Chandrakar.
