Lord Shiva doing the Tapasya(engaged in meditation).
Ravi Speaks:
Maha Shivratri is a celebration that takes place on the 13th and 14th days of the month Phalguna. The same day falls today on 18th of February according to the Gregorian calendar. The festival’s true origins are unclear, but it doesn’t stop people from chanting prayers, engaging in meditation, and fasting in order to demonstrate their faith and conviction. This is the biggest festival celebration for Kashmiri Pandits who celebrate this day as the marriage day of Lord Shiva with Mata Parvati and Pooja is held during the night solemnising their pious marriage. Here is an extract from ‘India Today’ giving in a summarized form the different stories attached to Maha Shivratri.
