“My Morning Walk-In ‘Gandhi Maidan’ Of Patna”.
Before becoming the NSM- I had Bihar and Jharkhand, an important part of my area as a Sales Manager. I had the whole of North except UP-which included Delhi mainly, J&K, HP, and Punjab, and CDG-UT in addition to the Bihar & Jharkhand areas. Therefore I used to spend at least a week to sometimes even a fortnight in these areas -which were comparatively far away from the rest of my area from my HQ. So mostly I would plan in a manner that I stayed at Patna or Ranchi making them as the base camp and that way used to cover their est of the HQs from there. So being a very regular visitor to Patna- I used to stay in my favorite Hotel-Nand-which was quite near to the historical Gandhi Maidan of Patna.

Initially in the first few years, I did not know in detail about the surrounding places of Patna but slowly and steadily once I used to be a frequent visitor-I came to know about many historical places and even the important Holy places of the Patna city and its surrounding areas.
Of late I realized that in the early morning hours if I started doing the morning walk and that too in the ground daily-it would keep me fit for the whole day and otherwise too I had no physical movement during my stay outside my HQ except the working with the concerned field staff and that way I had attained a puffed up physique too. Normally I used to stay at a stretch for a week at Patna in which out of two days in Patna rest I used to go to the peripheral belts and cover them making Patna the base camp. So in the morning, I started going on foot from my hotel to the very famous and historical “Gandhi-Maidan”-which was hardly around a mile away from my hotel. I used to bring my sports shoe along with me to Patna and especially in the morning wear the same at around 6.00 AM sharp and started my morning walk. Reach the Maidan in around 10 minutes and then I used to do the brisk walking for around an hour. This Gandhi Ground has a radius of 2.5 Km. During this one hour I used to do three rounds of that big Maidan and after that, a bit of “flexing of muscles” exercises and finally returned to my hotel.

Gandhi Maidan is a historic site in Patna on the banks of the Ganges River in Bihar, India. Golghar falls on its western side. During the British rule from 1824–1833, it was used as a golf course and horse racing track and is known as the Patna Lance. It is spread over 60 acres of land. Subhas Chandra Bose, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Narendra Modi. What connects the leaders who otherwise share little in common? The historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The maidan, formerly known as Patna Lawns, or Bankipore Maidan as it was called before independence, lies in the heart of the capital of Bihar near the banks of the Ganga, surrounded by commercial establishments and educational institutions.

Acting either as a political launchpad or giving the necessary impetus to a political cause, the ground has witnessed, and facilitated, the rise of many leaders and political movements in India.
This was also the place where three bombs went off while the then prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was addressing a gathering on 27 October 2013. And much earlier, Jayaprakash Narayan in 1974 launched his fight against Emergency from its soil.
The beauty of the Maidan was that it was very big and very well educated people would come for the morning walk there. It was the spot where people from all age groups were present in the morning. There was a big Mahatma Gandhi Murti installed at one of the corners towards the west of the Maidan-where almost all the people who would come inside for the walk would come and take the rest near that. There was a proper sitting arrangement also provided and people would bow in front of the murti and then go back to their respective places.

During this process of walking, I used to meet certain people whom I had met during my official visits and even the colleagues who happened to be the employee of Himalaya in other SBU’s. One person who was the RM in other SBU-Zandra would invariably meet me daily since his timing and my timing was almost the same and we used to have a small chat and then disperse. This way the regular walking with a bit of exercise would prove to me as a good dose of keeping my body fit for the whole day which otherwise would be very boring since I had no other work except for my official duties and most of my free time would go as a waste.

On my way back I used to take a cup of tea-for which I had a set place and most of the morning walkers would come there at that spot and take tea. This spot had become a very important one since many latest news and happenings of Patna around that time were being discussed there and people would get updated there on the spot. It had happened on many occasions that certain news was spread by me based on my authentic source-“That tea spot” and local Patna reps would not know about the same. Later they would realize that the news was correct.
This way I continued till the last September of 2019 and immediately after that in October I retired from the services. I would remember Gandhi Maidan and especially Patna for a long time especially for my special activity which I started of late there-that was my “Morning-Walk”.
