Sen. McConnell appears to freeze while speaking for second time
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell experienced another instance of freezing during a press interaction in Covington, Kentucky. This incident, where he paused for over 30 seconds when questioned about his potential re-election, mirrors a similar occurrence in July. On that occasion, McConnell, 81, halted for 19 seconds during a Capitol Hill news conference. Although he returned and stated he was fine, his recent recurrence of freezing prompts concerns about his health.
During the recent episode, an aide approached McConnell and inquired if he heard the question, to which he remained unresponsive. He briefly engaged in responding to questions about Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and former President Donald Trump, but displayed discomfort discussing Trump-related topics. Following his brief interaction with reporters, McConnell left without addressing the freezing incident. A spokesperson for McConnell mentioned that he had paused due to momentary lightheadedness and emphasized his overall well-being.
President Joe Biden, upon learning about McConnell’s episode, expressed his intention to contact him and highlighted their friendship despite political disagreements. McConnell’s freezing incidents, coupled with his age, raise concerns about his health and ability to handle upcoming events.
