Just like the last movie introduced the ocean-loving Metkayina clan, Fire and Ash reveals a powerful new tribe: the Ash People. This fierce, fire-wielding group lives among volcanic landscapes and was revealed in a dramatic sneak peek at the 2024 D23 Expo. The trailer teases an epic showdown between Jake Sully’s family, the Metkayina clan, and Varang’s fire-wielding warriors, who are now working with longtime villain Quaritch (Stephen Lang). At one point, Varang delivers a chilling line:
“Your goddess has no dominion here.”
It’s clear she has the power to control fire — and she’s using it to scorch the lush forests of Pandora.
Originally, The Way of Water and Fire and Ash were meant to be a single movie, but Cameron split them into two to fully explore the expanding story. He also hinted that the Ash People are more dangerous and ruthless than any tribe we’ve seen before.
“There’s a new character in this one — someone you’ll either absolutely love or love to hate,” Cameron teased.
