Barbra Streisand, 82 years old, has issued a statement regarding her social media blunder with Melissa McCarthy.
On Monday, McCarthy, 53, uploaded several pictures on Instagram of herself with choreographer Adam Shankman.
In a now-deleted comment, the “Way We Were” actress wrote on McCarthy’s page, “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?”
After it became a social media buzz and received negative reactions, the “Funny Girl” star took over her Instagram Story.
“OMG – I went on Instagram to see the beautiful flower pictures I received for my birthday!” wrote Streisand, who turned 82 on April 24.
She continued, “Below them were pictures of my friend Melissa McCarthy whom I sang with on my Encore album. She looked great! I just wanted to compliment her.”
McCarthy, on her part, responded to the comment in LA on Tuesday. “I think Barbra is a treasure whom I admire,” she said, via TMZ.
Before Streisand deleted the “Ozempic” comment, she received numerous reactions from fans.
“DOES SHE NOT KNOW EVERYONE CAN SEE HER COMMENTS???” wrote someone.
“Babs. No, honey. Just no,” replied another participant on Instagram.
“Big boomer aunt energy with wine and an iPad,” wrote another.
“Babs typing on IG like my elderly mom telling me she texted someone something, and me explaining: ‘No, mom, you wrote it on FB on your wall for everyone to see 😂😂,'” added another.
“Serving the Streisand Effect in real time,” wrote someone on X, referring to how deleting the comment did not make it less attention-grabbing.
McCarthy has openly discussed body image issues and weight loss throughout the years. However, the comedian did not mention Ozempic, a diabetes drug that has become a trend for weight-loss purposes.
McCarthy previously stated that she has been “every size on this planet.” She also mentioned that she once lost 70 pounds by switching to an all-liquid diet, something she would “never” do again.
Other online spectators gave Streisand a chance for the mistake.
“I believe she meant it for a private question. Can’t any of you show her a little grace!!” wrote someone.
“She probably thought it was a DM lol,” noted a user.
On Tuesday, Streisand ended her Instagram Story statement by writing: “I forgot the world is reading!”
