“BCCI Pursues Ricky Ponting for India Head Coach: Challenges & Contenders Revealed!”

Ricky Ponting has been approached by the BCCI for India’s head coach job.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively seeking a replacement for current head coach Rahul Dravid, whose term ends in June and who is unwilling to continue. Former India batsman VVS Laxman, now heading the National Cricket Academy (NCA), is a potential candidate, though his interest remains uncertain. BCCI is considering both domestic and overseas options for the position, pending recommendations from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). However, both Ricky Ponting and Stephen Fleming, former cricket captains from Australia and New Zealand respectively, have shown reluctance to take on the role despite informal approaches. Concerns include the demanding year-round nature of the job, despite their extensive experience in Indian cricket through IPL involvement. Justin Langer, another former Australian cricketer, has emerged as a recent name in discussions. The deadline for applications is May 27, and Dravid’s successor will lead the team until the 2027 World Cup.
