Beloved Actor Ray Stevenson Passes Away at 58
Ray Stevenson, the Irish actor known for his roles in films such as “Punisher: War Zone,” “Thor,” and TV shows like “Rome” and “Dexter,” has passed away at the age of 58. Stevenson’s publicist confirmed his death, which occurred in Italy on Sunday. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Born in Northern Ireland on May 25, 1964, Stevenson began his acting career in the 1990s, appearing in TV shows before transitioning to action-packed roles in Hollywood films. He gained recognition for his portrayal of Dagonet, one of the Knights of the Round Table, in the 2004 film “King Arthur.” Stevenson’s breakthrough in the Marvel universe came with his role as the Punisher in the 2008 film “Punisher: War Zone.”
Stevenson’s filmography includes notable appearances in movies such as “The Book of Eli,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and the “Thor” franchise, where he played the character Volstagg. He also appeared in TV series like “Rome,” “Dexter,” “Black Sails,” and “Vikings.”
His recent projects included the Tollywood blockbuster “RRR” and the upcoming Disney+ series “Ahsoka,” set in the “Star Wars” universe, where he portrayed a Jedi named Baylan Skoll. Stevenson had previously lent his voice to the character Gar Saxon in “Star Wars Rebels” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”
