Mahadev Online Betting Scam: Bollywood Celebrities and Pakistani Connections Under Scrutiny – The420CyberNews
The Mahadev betting app has attracted significant attention due to the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation involving Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. The agency uncovered assets worth ₹417 crore during searches at 39 locations linked to the app. The app garnered widespread attention when these actors, who appeared in its advertisements, were summoned for questioning.
Operated by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal from Dubai, Mahadev used various tactics to lure new customers. They frequently created new websites and chat groups, ran paid ads on social media platforms, and encouraged people to contact them via WhatsApp. Customer care executives guided users through creating accounts with benami (fraudulent) bank accounts.
The app’s complex network extended to call centers across Malaysia, Thailand, India, and the UAE. These centers operated continuously to create subsidiary apps and websites and interact with customers. Mahadev allegedly made a daily profit of ₹200 crore through transactions of thousands of crores.
The investigation unveiled a nexus involving police, bureaucrats, and politicians who profited from the operation. Large-scale hawala transactions were used to transfer betting proceeds offshore, while 30 call centers in major Indian cities facilitated the operation. Associates of the app’s operators, Anil Dammani and Sunil Dammani, were responsible for this network. Both Dammani brothers have been arrested, and they claimed to have conducted illegal transactions worth ₹60 to 65 crore in two years.
Furthermore, Bollywood celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, are under scrutiny for their involvement in the Dubai wedding performance, allegedly paid through hawala transactions. This investigation aims to uncover the source of the money received from the betting app. Overall, Mahadev’s illicit activities involved a complex web of tactics, a vast call center network, and connections with influential individuals in India.
