Oppenheimer vs Barbie Box Office Collection Day 1: Christopher Nolan Film Far Ahead of Fantasy Comedy in India – Check Detailed Opening Day Report
The Hollywood movies “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” have created a significant impact on the Indian box office, with both films achieving impressive opening-day collections. According to early estimates, the two movies collectively raked in around ₹18-20 crore on July 21. “Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, emerged as the top-grossing Hollywood film of the year in terms of opening-day collections in India, earning an estimated ₹13.5-14.5 crore. In comparison, “Barbie” earned around ₹4.5-6 crore on the same day.
The success of “Oppenheimer” can be attributed to its wider release in India, having been screened on approximately 1,900 screens, compared to “Barbie,” which was released on over 850 screens. Trade analysts also pointed out that “Oppenheimer” surpassed the first-day collections of other major Hollywood flicks like “Fast X” and “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning.”
In the US, the two films had contrasting opening day figures, with “Barbie” collecting $22.3 million in ticket sales, while “Oppenheimer” managed $10.5 million.
Overall, Hollywood movies have contributed significantly to the Indian box office collections, accounting for about ₹585 crore in the first half of the year, representing around 12 percent of the cumulative gross box office collections of ₹4,868 crore during that period.
The successful opening of “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” indicates a strong presence and growing popularity of Hollywood films in the Indian market.
