“Box Office Battles: ‘Godzilla x Kong’ Reigns, ‘Monkey Man’ Surprises, and ‘The First Omen’ Struggles”

Godzilla x Kong’ maintains box-office dominion in second weekend

In the second weekend at the box office, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” maintained its dominance despite facing competition. The film, directed by Adam Wingard, saw a 60% drop from its debut, securing $31.7 million. With a worldwide gross of $361.1 million in just two weeks, it may surpass the $529 million global earnings of the 2014 “Godzilla.” Its production cost was approximately $135 million.

Meanwhile, “Monkey Man,” directed by and starring Dev Patel, debuted strongly, earning $10.1 million in North American theaters. The film, a revenge thriller set in India, had a modest budget of $10 million and was picked up by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions after being dropped by Netflix.

On the other hand, “The First Omen,” a prequel horror film from Disney’s 20th Century Studios, struggled with an estimated $8.4 million in ticket sales domestically, despite costing $30 million to make. It placed fourth behind “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which earned $9 million in its third weekend. Additionally, “Dune: Part Two” continued its strong performance, adding $7.2 million in its sixth week.
