Bollywood star Varun Dhawan has shared details about his upcoming OTT series Citadel, stating that the show will feature unique action sequences and will be filmed in Serbia. Citadel is the Indian extension of the global spy franchise produced by Amazon Studios and Russo Brothers’ AGBO banner, and it stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Dhawan expressed his excitement about the project, describing it as a “very big series” unlike anything seen in India before.
The Indian chapter of Citadel will be helmed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, known for their work on popular series like The Family Man and Farzi. Dhawan praised their dedication to pushing boundaries and highlighted Samantha’s hard work as well. The franchise has already launched an American version starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, with an Italian installment set to arrive next year.
Aside from Citadel, Dhawan will also appear in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal, alongside Janhvi Kapoor. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with directors like Shoojit Sircar, Sriram Raghavan, and Nitesh Tiwari, who challenge and bring out the best in him as an artist.
Dhawan’s recent theatrical release, Bhediya, made its digital debut on JioCinema, and the actor hopes for a positive reception. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, is part of a horror-comedy universe that includes Stree and Roohi.
