Céline Dion and Lady Gaga performed at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on July 26, 2024.
Céline Dion sang “L’Hymne à l’amour” by Édith Piaf from a stage at the base of the Eiffel Tower, marking her first performance since she was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022. Lady Gaga started the ceremony with “Mon Truc En Plumes” by Zizi Jeanmaire, performing on stairs along the Seine River surrounded by pink feathers, reminiscent of her Las Vegas residency.
French-Malian pop star Aya Nakamura also performed at the event. The ceremony, led by artistic director Thomas Jolly, was one of the most ambitious yet and took place along the Seine River.
Lady Gaga expressed her gratitude for performing and her love for French culture in an Instagram post. Both Dion and Gaga’s presence in Paris created a buzz on social media. Dion’s performance was significant as she has been open about how her condition affects her singing ability.
Dion previously performed at the Olympic opening ceremony in 1996 in Atlanta, singing “The Power of the Dream.”
