Chris Martin Playfully Warns Fans About the “Jumbotron Song” After Viral Concert Moment

Coldplay returns to stage with a warning after viral Jumbotron clip

At Coldplay’s latest concert in Madison, Wisconsin, frontman Chris Martin took a lighthearted moment to address fans — and poke fun at a recent viral incident.

During the band’s first show since a now-infamous moment at their Boston-area performance, Martin jokingly warned the crowd about what’s become known as “The Jumbotron Song.” It’s a regular part of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour where cameras spotlight fans in the crowd on the big screen.

The bit turned controversial earlier this week when the camera focused on two concertgoers who looked noticeably uncomfortable. It later came out they were co-workers allegedly involved in a secret affair. The video blew up online, and the fallout was serious — Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, one of the people caught on camera, resigned after the incident. He had been seen embracing the company’s chief HR officer, Kristin Cabot, sparking speculation about their relationship.

At Saturday’s concert in Madison, Martin eased into the moment with a smile:

“We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd,” he told fans at Camp Randall Stadium. “We’re gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.”
Then, with his signature charm, he added,
“So please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now.”

This time around, the band avoided showing couples during The Jumbotron Song — likely a deliberate move to steer clear of another unexpected headline.

Chris Martin also couldn’t resist one last joke, referring to the Boston moment:

“Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.”
