LS Polls 2024: Congress drops Supriya Shrinate from UP’s Maharajganj amid Kangana Ranaut row – BusinessToday
The Congress party has decided to drop Supriya Shrinate as a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections due to controversy surrounding her remarks about actor Kangana Ranaut. Shrinate, who contested from Maharajganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh in 2019 but lost, faced criticism after an offensive post appeared on her Instagram account targeting Ranaut. Despite Shrinate’s explanation that someone else had access to her social media and posted the derogatory content, the Election Commission issued her a show-cause notice. The Congress, in its latest announcement, named Virendra Chaudhary as their new candidate for Maharajganj. This decision comes amid the party’s eighth list of candidates for various states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Jharkhand. The Congress aims to contest the elections with a total of 208 candidates.
