Demi Moore Has Compassion for Ex Bruce Willis’ Wife Emma Heming
Demi Moore has spoken out about her ex-husband Bruce Willis’ battle with dementia and praised his wife, Emma Heming Willis, for the strength and compassion she’s shown as his caregiver.
Speaking on The Oprah Podcast, Moore described Heming Willis as “masterful” in the way she has navigated the challenges of caring for Willis since his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis. “She’s had equal amounts of fear, strength, and courage,” Moore said, adding that she deeply respects the tough choices Emma has made.
Emma Heming Willis’ Caregiving Journey
Heming Willis, a former model turned entrepreneur and advocate, revealed in a recent Diane Sawyer Special that she made the difficult decision to place Bruce in a separate, fully staffed care home. She explained it was what Willis would have wanted—ensuring their two daughters could live in a more normal environment while he receives round-the-clock professional support.
“Bruce is in really great health overall—it’s just his brain that is failing him,” Heming Willis told Sawyer. She added that while the choice was painful, it was necessary to give him the best care possible.
Backlash and Her Response
Not everyone agreed with her decision, and Heming Willis faced criticism online. She addressed the backlash in an Instagram post, saying:
“Too often, caregivers are judged by those who haven’t lived this journey. Sharing openly may invite opinions, but it also creates connection and validation for others facing the same challenges.”
Moore’s Perspective as a Co-Parent
Demi Moore, who was married to Willis for 13 years and shares three daughters with him, acknowledged how painful it is to watch someone once so strong and vibrant change due to illness. Still, she emphasized the importance of “meeting them where they’re at” instead of clinging to the past.
“There’s a sweetness and tenderness that can come through when you let go of expectations,” Moore shared.
A Family United in Support
Despite their divorce in 2000, Moore and Willis have remained close friends and co-parents. She even attended his 2009 wedding to Heming Willis, with whom he shares two daughters. Today, Moore continues to stand in support of Emma’s caregiving journey, recognizing both the hardships and the resilience it takes to care for a loved one with dementia.
