Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Combs, has written a heartfelt letter to the judge ahead of her son’s sentencing, asking for compassion and understanding.
The music mogul, 55, was convicted earlier this year on two prostitution-related charges but was cleared of more serious accusations of sex trafficking and racketeering after a high-profile federal trial. He has been in custody in Brooklyn since September 2024 and is set to be sentenced in October, facing the possibility of several more years in prison.
In her letter, submitted as part of Diddy’s legal team’s sentencing memorandum, Janice admitted that her son has made “terrible mistakes.” But she also reminded Judge Arun Subramanian of the many hardships Diddy has faced since childhood, including losing his father at just 2 years old and his uncle at 9.
She wrote that despite these struggles, her son worked tirelessly to support both her and his own children.
Now 84, Janice expressed how painful the past year has been without her son:
“On December 21, I will be 85 years old. This separation for the past year while Sean has been incarcerated has been excruciatingly difficult and painful for me and his children. I would like to spend the last few years of my life with my son, Sean.”
Diddy’s attorneys have asked the judge to consider time already served and to impose no more than a 14-month sentence. Along with Janice, several of Diddy’s children and close supporters also submitted letters urging leniency.
The Bad Boy Records founder, once one of the most powerful figures in music and entertainment, now awaits the court’s decision that will shape the next chapter of his life.
