Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at the United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida. Nassar, who was convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts, was reported to be in stable condition after the attack. According to anonymous sources, he was stabbed in the back and chest.

Nassar is currently serving decades in prison for sexually assaulting gymnasts while working at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics. He also pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography. During victim impact statements in 2018, numerous athletes testified that they had disclosed the abuse to adults, including coaches and trainers, but no action was taken.

Over 100 women, including Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, sought more than $1 billion from the federal government, blaming the FBI for failing to stop Nassar when they became aware of the allegations against him in 2015. Michigan State University agreed to pay $500 million to more than 300 women and girls assaulted by Nassar, while USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee settled for $380 million.

In June 2022, the Michigan Supreme Court rejected Nassar’s final appeal, stating that although there were concerns about the judge’s conduct, Nassar’s appeal was a “close question” and that the sentencing agreement had been followed. More than 150 victims spoke or submitted statements during a seven-day hearing four years ago.

Rachael Denhollander, the first woman to publicly accuse Nassar, expressed relief, stating, “It’s over… Almost six years after I filed the police report, it’s finally over.”
