Ellen Pompeo recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where she shared an inspiring story about Taylor Swift’s generosity. The Grey’s Anatomy star revealed that Swift, despite knowing her for only a short time, donated a significant amount to a charity close to her heart.
Taylor Swift’s Instant Act of Kindness
Pompeo recalled how she and her husband, Chris Ivery, actively support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The hospital runs a unique program that helps babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Parents who can’t be with their children all day can record nursery rhymes and stories, which are then played for the infants to provide comfort and promote better health outcomes.
“It’s an amazing program, but it requires funding,” Pompeo explained. “I asked Taylor, ‘Could you write me a big old check for Children’s?’ She had only known me for about 20 minutes, but she wrote the biggest check without hesitation.”
A Friendship Rooted in Pop Culture
Swift has long been a fan of Pompeo’s iconic Grey’s Anatomy character, Meredith Grey. In fact, she named one of her beloved cats after the character. Their paths crossed again when Pompeo appeared in Swift’s star-studded “Bad Blood” music video, where she shared scenes with Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay. Interestingly, Swift also named another one of her cats after Hargitay’s character, Olivia Benson.
Filming the video was a breeze, according to Pompeo. “I was on set for maybe an hour or two. It was the easiest thing ever,” she said.

This isn’t the first time Taylor Swift has made headlines for her philanthropy. Over the years, she has donated millions to education, disaster relief, and healthcare causes.
