Elon Musk Threatens to Launch New Political Party Over Senate Spending Bill

Elon Musk threatens to start new political party over ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ – al.com

Just when it seemed like Elon Musk was stepping back from politics, he jumped right back in—with his boldest warning yet.

On Monday, while the Senate debated President Donald Trump’s massive spending proposal—nicknamed the “Big, Beautiful Bill”—Musk took to his platform, X (formerly Twitter), and didn’t hold back.

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on cutting government spending and then voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame,” Musk posted. “They will lose their primaries next year—if it’s the last thing I do.”

But that wasn’t all.

Later that same day, Musk made an even bigger threat: If the bill passes, he said he’ll launch a brand-new political party called “The America Party.”

“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE,” he wrote.

This isn’t the first time Musk has floated the idea. A few weeks back, he ranted on X about the same bill, calling it “insane” for increasing the debt ceiling by a record-breaking $5 trillion. He sarcastically referred to Congress as the “Porky Pig Party” and called for a movement that “actually cares about the people.”

A Growing Rift with Trump

While Musk heavily backed Trump in the 2024 election—donating over $275 million to support Trump and other Republicans—things have soured lately. Musk recently clashed with Trump publicly and has taken strong issue with this new spending bill.

Even though Musk claims his anger isn’t about the bill’s impact on electric vehicles or green energy subsidies (which would be cut), he’s criticized it for favoring “industries of the past” and “damaging the industries of the future.”

What’s in the Bill?

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the Senate bill would add about $3.3 trillion to the national deficit over the next 10 years. That’s nearly $900 billion more than a similar bill passed by the House. The Senate version includes deeper tax cuts, fewer spending reductions, and some revenue-raising provisions.

The Trump administration insists the bill will cut deficits over time and boost the economy—but they’ve been criticized for not including the cost of extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts in their math.

Musk isn’t buying it. He calls the bill a form of “debt slavery.”

Musk’s Next Move

Musk has promised to back candidates who challenge current members of Congress in the primaries—especially those who support the bill. Though he said recently he was planning to cut back on political donations, it now seems like he’s gearing up for another big political push.

Whether Musk actually launches a new party or not, one thing is clear: He’s not done with politics just yet.
