Streaming Boosts 2025 Awards Ratings Closer to Pre-Pandemic Levels
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards gave CBS plenty of reasons to celebrate on Sunday night. The broadcast drew 7.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched Emmys since 2021.
That’s an 8% jump from last year’s ceremony, which pulled in 6.9 million viewers on ABC. Interestingly, the last time the Emmys reached this high was also in 2021—when CBS last aired the show. Since then, NBC, Fox, and ABC haven’t been able to top that number.
Another highlight? Streaming views on Paramount+ soared, up a massive 76% compared to 2021, showing just how much audience habits have shifted toward online viewing.
Of course, the Emmys weren’t the only game on TV that night. NBC’s broadcast of the NFL matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings also grabbed a large audience. But unlike last year’s Emmys, which went head-to-head with a January NFL playoff game (and hit record-low ratings), this year’s competition wasn’t nearly as tough.
Comedian Nate Bargatze hosted the 2025 Emmys, which honored some of television’s biggest hits. The top awards went to:
- The Studio — Outstanding Comedy Series (and the night’s biggest winner with 13 Emmys total)
- The Pitt — Outstanding Drama Series
- Adolescence — Outstanding Limited Series
With strong ratings, big wins, and a boost from streaming, CBS has every reason to call this year’s Emmys a success.
