7-Day Japan Family Itinerary: Perfect First Trip with Kids – Brave Free Travel
Tokyo is a large city with bright lights, great food, and quiet historic corners. Families can explore temples, large towers, and fun neighbourhoods in one trip. This seven-day plan keeps each day simple with clear highlights.
Day 1: Arrival and First Walk
Check into your hotel and take a short walk near it. Have your first meal at a nearby café or small restaurant. This helps you settle into the city before a busy week ahead.
Day 2: Asakusa and TOKYO SKYTREE
Start the morning in Asakusa. The red Kaminari-mon gate stands tall and calls for a photo. Walk along Nakamise Street and try small snacks from the shops. Families can rent kimonos or ride a rickshaw for old Tokyo charm.
Then visit TOKYO SKYTREE, which rises 634 metres. The viewing decks give wide views of the city. Solamachi at the base has more than 300 stores, so shoppers have many choices.
Day 3: Interactive Fun and Odaiba
SMALL WORLDS Miniature Museum brings tiny cities and anime sets to life. Guests can also place a small model of themselves inside the exhibit. TeamLab Planets in Toyosu lets visitors walk through digital spaces with moving art and bright colour.
Later, go to Odaiba, a waterfront area with malls and open spaces. The Unicorn Gundam statue draws attention and makes a great photo stop. The Rainbow Bridge glows in the evening and reflects on the bay.
Day 4: Shibuya and Akihabara
Shibuya Crossing is busy and lively. Stop at Pepper PARLOR, where robots greet diners and chat with them at the table.
Spend the afternoon in Akihabara. The area is full of retro games, anime shops, and bright neon lights.
Day 5: Harajuku Style and Meiji Shrine
Walk through Takeshita Street in Harajuku. The street has colourful clothes, sweets, and shops that attract teens. Younger visitors can enjoy the Ninja Experience Café and try simple tricks.
Just a short walk away, Omotesando offers calm streets with modern architecture and stylish stores. End the day at Meiji Jingu, a peaceful shrine that sits in a forest setting and offers a quiet break from the city.
Day 6: Slower Pace in Shinjuku and Shimokitazawa
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a good place for a picnic or a relaxed walk. Cherry blossoms in spring and red leaves in autumn create simple seasonal beauty.
Shimokitazawa is a relaxed area with vintage shops, vinyl records, and small coffee spots where families can rest.
Day 7: Day Trips and Nearby Fun
Tokyo is a strong starting point for nearby trips. Tokyo Disney Resort is just outside the city, and many other day trips are easy to reach by train.
Food for Every Preference
Tokyo offers plenty of choice for vegetarian and vegan eating. Umenohana in Ginza serves tofu and yuba dishes. The Tokyo Vegan Ramen Center in Harajuku serves plant-based bowls that feel warm and satisfying.
Many small eateries across the city offer plant-based curry, tempura, and more. Travelers can also use the city’s official Vegan and Vegetarian Guide.
Where to Stay
Hilton Tokyo offers modern comfort. TAKANAWA HANAKOHRO provides a Japanese experience with tatami floors and garden views.
Tokyo gives something to every family member. Each person finds a corner they enjoy, and the trip becomes a shared memory.
