The Fantastic Four: First Steps Opens To $218M Global Box Office
Marvel’s latest superhero flick, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is off to a strong start, raking in $218 million worldwide in its opening weekend. Of that, $100 million came from international markets.
While that puts it just below Superman’s global debut of $220 million, it outpaced Superman internationally. Key countries boosting Fantastic Four’s numbers include Mexico ($12M), the UK ($10.8M), France ($5.7M), and Brazil ($5.1M). However, it underperformed in China with just $4.5M—though that’s not unexpected, as superhero movies have faced growing resistance there. Even Superman only pulled $6.6M in China, despite being a more globally recognized character.
Directed by Matt Shakman, Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the iconic superhero team. The story follows the group battling a powerful cosmic force threatening their world. With solid reviews and strong word-of-mouth, the movie is expected to hold steady in the coming weeks—good news for Disney and Marvel, who’ve been struggling to replicate their past box office dominance. Their last hit, Deadpool & Wolverine, broke the billion-dollar mark, but Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts flopped earlier this year.
Other Blockbusters Making Big Moves
Meanwhile, three other major films reached significant box office milestones this weekend:
• Superman has earned $502 million globally, despite a sharp 57% drop in its third weekend. It’s been more successful in North America than overseas, with international sales reaching $213M.
• F1, Brad Pitt’s high-octane racing drama, sped past the $500 million mark as well. Now in its fifth week, it added another $20M this weekend and has earned $344M internationally.
• Jurassic World Rebirth is leading the pack with a massive $718 million in global ticket sales. In its fourth weekend, it brought in $23.5M internationally. Starring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, it’s one of just three films this year to pass the $700M milestone. However, it still has big shoes to fill—each of the previous Jurassic World trilogy entries topped $1 billion.
Despite stiff competition, these big-budget blockbusters continue to drive moviegoers back to theaters, proving that cinematic spectacle still draws crowds worldwide.
