Caleb Martin, the unexpected hero of Game 7 in the Eastern Conference finals for the Miami Heat, made a significant impact with his performance against the Boston Celtics. Starting for the first time in the series, Martin played 45 minutes, scored 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting, and secured 10 rebounds. His contributions helped the Heat secure a 103-84 victory, avoiding a potential collapse and advancing to the NBA Finals. Martin, a native of Mocksville, North Carolina, attended Oak Hill Academy before beginning his collegiate career at North Carolina State in 2014. After transferring to Nevada and sitting out a season due to NCAA transfer rules, Martin excelled during his time with the Wolf Pack, earning the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year award in his first season and averaging 19.2 points per game in his senior year. Despite going undrafted in 2019, Martin signed a contract with the Charlotte Hornets as an undrafted free agent but was later released. He then joined the Miami Heat on a two-way contract in 2021, showcasing his abilities off the bench and earning a three-year, $20 million deal. Interestingly, Martin’s connection to rapper J. Cole played a role in his journey to the Heat, as he worked out at a gym owned by J. Cole, who introduced him to Heat assistant coach Caron Butler. J. Cole’s recommendation led to Martin earning a spot on the team.
