Nine members of a family killed in Nuseirat as Israel bombards Gaza
On January 3, 2025, an Israeli airstrike hit the Al Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, killing at least nine members of the Abu Libda family. The attack reduced their home to rubble, leaving a devastating scene of destruction. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the strike is part of ongoing military operations that have resulted in over 45,500 Palestinian deaths since the conflict began on October 7, 2023. Israeli casualties have surpassed 1,400 during the same period.
The humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to rise, with nearly 140 people killed in the last two days alone. Amnesty International has raised concerns over Israel’s actions, including the recent detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital. The organization described these measures as part of a broader attempt to dismantle Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure.
In a separate strike on January 3, a family of three, including a husband, wife, and their son, were killed when their home in Gaza City’s al-Sahaba Street was bombed. Meanwhile, displaced Palestinians living in tents near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah were also targeted by Israeli fighter jets, leaving several wounded.
International organizations and aid groups continue to warn of an escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with widespread shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. Children are among the most affected, with studies showing severe psychological trauma across Gaza’s younger population.
As the conflict intensifies, global leaders are under mounting pressure to address the worsening situation and work toward an immediate ceasefire.
