Why Taylor Swift Brought Her Boyfriend, Travis Kelce, Onstage on Eras Tour – Business Insider
Kelce’s Playful Promise: ‘I’ll Mess Up to Make You Look Good’
Gracie Abrams recently shared a behind-the-scenes moment from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium. During her visit to SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Gracie recounted a conversation with Travis Kelce, Taylor’s boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who made a surprise onstage appearance on June 23.
“Before we both went on, we were in the tent, and he was like, ‘I’ll mess up so you look really good,'” Gracie said, describing Travis’ playful remark. Travis’ cameo came right before Gracie joined Taylor onstage to perform their song, “Us.”
Travis Kelce has been a dedicated supporter of Taylor’s tour, attending shows in various cities like Australia, Paris, and Kansas City. His London appearance during the Tortured Poets Department era saw him in a black tuxedo and top hat, matching Taylor’s backup dancers. He carried Taylor onstage, standing by as she transitioned from a dress to a two-piece outfit, creating a memorable moment for fans.
Planned Onstage Cameo
According to a source close to the couple, Travis and Taylor had been planning his onstage cameo for some time, and the stars finally aligned at Wembley. Despite only having one night of rehearsal, Travis executed his role flawlessly, even pretending to apply makeup to Taylor’s face before she sang “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
Taylor took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the unforgettable shows and the support from fans and friends, including Travis’ debut on the Eras Tour. “Wembley Stadium round one was so surreal. Looking out into crowds of 90,000 fans each night and hearing that VOLUME… Those were some of the loudest crowds I’ve ever heard,” she wrote. She also celebrated performing “Castles Crumbling” with Hayley Williams and her duet with Gracie.
Gracie’s Reflections on the Tour
Gracie Abrams, reflecting on her time with the tour, expressed her joy and gratitude for being part of such a significant event. “Every single person on the team, I just, you’re like, ‘Holy s**t. Hey.’ Big hug. Tears, tears, tears. ‘Miss you so much. See you again in the fall,'” she said. The prospect of the tour ending in December seemed almost unthinkable to her, highlighting the deep bond she has formed with the team.
The tour has also been a star-studded affair, with Taylor entertaining numerous big-name celebrities. Gracie found herself particularly star-struck when meeting Sir Paul McCartney. “It’s just a community of really supportive people,” Gracie explained. “Everyone is there because there is such deep joy and feeling associated with all of the music that she’s put out over the past 18 years.”
As the Eras Tour continues, fans can look forward to more magical moments, and perhaps, more surprise appearances from Travis Kelce. The couple’s chemistry and support for each other add an extra layer of enchantment to Taylor’s already mesmerizing performances.
