2024 Grammy Awards: Women Lead the Pack
The 66th Grammy Awards, set for February 4, 2024, are poised to be dominated by female artists. SZA leads the nominations with nine nods for her album SOS and its songs across pop, rap, and R&B genres. Notably, the song and record of the year categories are predominantly female, with Jon Batiste being the sole male nominee in both. Taylor Swift, with six nominations, has the potential to make history by winning Album of the Year for the fourth time.
Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers, and mixing engineer Serban Ghenea follow closely with seven nominations each. The Barbie album secures a strong presence with 12 nominations, featuring artists like Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, and Dua Lipa. Additionally, new Grammy categories include Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording, with nominees like Kylie Minogue and Troye Sivan.
Beyond music, notable nominees include Meryl Streep, Michelle Obama, Bernie Sanders, and Dave Chappelle in non-musical categories. However, the absence of country singer Morgan Wallen from major categories stands out as a notable snub. The upcoming awards follow Beyoncé’s historic win earlier this year, making her the most awarded artist in Grammy history, and Harry Styles’ Album of the Year for “Harry’s House” at the 65th ceremony.
