Hayden Panettiere Says ‘Well-Respected’ Oscar Winner Exposed Himself to Her at 19
Actress Hayden Panettiere has shared disturbing personal experiences in her new memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning. The actress revealed that when she was 19 years old, a “well-respected” and “Oscar-winning actor and director” exposed himself to her during a private party.
According to Panettiere, the incident happened at an apartment gathering where she was talking with a group of men. Feeling uncomfortable, she decided to leave the party. As she was putting on her coat, the unnamed man approached her and pointed to what he claimed was gum stuck to his pants.
When she looked down, she realized his testicles were exposed through an unzipped fly. Panettiere wrote that she was shocked by the behavior but did not believe the man intended to physically harm her. She described it as a drunken and inappropriate act that left her stunned.
The actress said she chose not to tell her friend about the incident at the time because she felt the moment had already passed. She later reflected that some older men simply behaved without respect or boundaries.
Elsewhere in the memoir, Panettiere also described another uncomfortable experience involving a “famous thirtysomething British singer-songwriter” while on a yacht in France. She said a friend encouraged her to get into bed with the musician, but she immediately left the room once they were alone.
In This Is Me: A Reckoning, Panettiere opens up about several deeply personal topics, including her bisexuality, struggles with depression, experiences with domestic abuse, and her past relationship with Milo Ventimiglia.
