FDA Recall : Over 60 Popular Ice Cream Products Recalled Nationwide Due to Listeria Risk
Totally Cool Inc. has recalled 68 ice cream products across 13 different brands due to potential listeria contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Monday.
Totally Cool, an ice cream manufacturer based in Owings Mills, Maryland, has ceased the production and distribution of the affected products after FDA sampling detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. No other products made by Totally Cool are impacted by this recall.
The recalled products were distributed nationwide and were available in retail locations and through direct delivery. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Symptoms of Listeriosis Infection
According to the FDA, listeriosis infection, often caused by Listeria monocytogenes contamination, presents a range of symptoms.
Symptoms can last from a few days to several weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. Mild symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
In cases of severe infection, symptoms can include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. For the very young, the elderly, and the immunocompromised, listeriosis can be fatal.
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, the FDA reported.
