India arrests Kashmir resident in connection with deadly Red Fort bomb attack | CNN
India’s National Investigation Agency said it arrested a man tied to the November 10 car bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort. The blast killed at least 10 people and injured more than 30.
The agency said the arrested man lived in India-administered Kashmir. The car used in the attack was registered under his name. The NIA also identified the alleged suicide bomber. He came from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. He died when the car stopped at a traffic signal and exploded.
Investigators seized another car linked to the alleged bomber. They said he worked as an assistant professor at Al Falah University in Faridabad in Haryana. CNN asked the university for comment.
On Wednesday, the university’s management told News18 that the men had no links with the institution beyond their official roles.
The NIA said it has spoken to more than 70 witnesses. Officers are looking for more people connected to the case.
The blast happened close to the Red Fort. The 17th-century site draws large crowds and sits near busy markets. The explosion caused panic across the area.
Footage showed tall flames rising into the night sky. Vehicles lay twisted and burnt. Victims were on the road as rescue teams arrived.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the car slowed and stopped near a traffic light at 6:42 p.m. Moments later, it exploded. People inside the car and those nearby were hit.
The city’s deputy fire chief said the fire destroyed six vehicles and three autorickshaws.
