Republic Day of India 2025: Celebrating 76 Years of Sovereignty
Celebrating 75 Glorious Years of Republic Day
Republic Day is a moment of pride for every Indian. It marks the day our Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, transforming India into a sovereign democratic republic. This monumental occasion fulfilled the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi and countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our independence. Their unwavering dedication gave us the freedom to shape our destiny, making Republic Day a significant milestone in our nation’s history.
This year, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Republic Day, it holds even greater importance. Our journey as a republic has been one of immense progress, determination, and unity. On this special day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation. He said, “We bow to those who made our Constitution. May this day inspire us to strengthen democracy and work for a prosperous India.” His words remind us of the ideals embedded in our Constitution—justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—and our responsibility to uphold them.
Over the past 75 years, India has achieved remarkable progress in every sphere. When we started, our literacy rate was just 12%, and life expectancy was 32 years. Today, these figures stand at 75% and 75 years, respectively. India is now one of the largest producers of food grains, a leader in technology, and the fifth-largest economy globally. Our achievements in space exploration, such as the historic soft landing of Chandrayaan-3, highlight our scientific capabilities and aspirations.
Republic Day is also a time to strengthen international relations. This year, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto graces the occasion as the chief guest. His visit underscores the deep historical and cultural ties between India and Indonesia. The two nations share much in common, from their struggle against colonialism to their commitment to regional peace and development. President Subianto’s visit is an opportunity to enhance collaboration in trade, technology, and defense, building on the strong foundation of the Act East Policy.
Indonesia, with its vast natural resources and strategic location, plays a critical role in the Indo-Pacific region. Strengthening our partnership with Jakarta will boost economic growth and ensure maritime security in the region. Both nations must work together to unlock the full potential of this relationship while promoting peace and prosperity in Asia.
Republic Day is not just about parades and celebrations; it is a time for reflection. It reminds us of the values that bind us as a nation. Our Constitution guarantees equality, dignity, and justice to every citizen. These ideals are our guiding light in creating an inclusive and progressive society. True Republic Day celebrations lie in practicing these principles daily, ensuring that even the most marginalized feel empowered.
As we salute our flag and honor those who made our republic possible, let us pledge to uphold the values of our Constitution. Let us strive for a stronger, united, and prosperous India.
Happy 75th Republic Day to all!
