Indri Indian Whisky: Won Whiskies of the World Award 2023
Indri Whisky, produced in India’s Haryana state, has garnered global recognition as it clinched the prestigious ‘Best in Show, Double Gold’ award at the 2023 Whiskies of the World Awards. This Indian single malt outshone a plethora of international rivals, including Scotch, Bourbon, Canadian, Australian, and British single malts. Piccadilly Distilleries, based in Haryana, has been the driving force behind Indri Whisky’s success, starting with the introduction of Indri-Trini, India’s first triple-barrel single malt, in 2021.
Siddhartha Sharma, founder of Piccadily Distilleries, expressed his excitement, highlighting the significance of this achievement in putting Indian whisky on the global map. Over the past two years, Indri Whisky has amassed more than 14 international accolades, further solidifying its reputation.
The whisky’s unique flavor profile, including smoky notes, candied dried fruits, toasted nuts, delicate spices, oak, and bittersweet chocolate, stems from a significant maturation period in PX sherry casks in North India’s subtropical climate.
This accolade not only recognizes the quality of Indian whisky but also reshapes perceptions of domestically produced spirits, elevating India to a prominent position in the global whisky industry. Indri-Trini is currently available in 19 Indian states and 17 other countries, with plans for expansion into the US and select European countries.
