Jay-Z’s final concert at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night was delayed by nearly three hours after a large crowd gathered outside the venue, leading to a security breach at one of the entrances.
According to Jay-Z, around 10,000 fans were still outside waiting to enter the sold-out 46,000-seat stadium. Security temporarily closed the gates to safely admit ticket holders and prevent overcrowding. The concert, originally scheduled for Sunday night, eventually began after midnight on Monday.
During the show, Jay-Z apologized to fans for the delay. He explained that security had closed the entrances because someone rushed one of the gates, and officials wanted to avoid anyone getting hurt.
Videos shared on social media show a group of concertgoers forcing their way through a turnstile at one stadium entrance. As more people pushed forward, a dangerous bottleneck formed, leaving several individuals trapped in the crowd. It remains unclear whether those involved had valid tickets or were trying to enter without one.
Security personnel and officers from the New York Police Department quickly responded to the situation, helping prevent what could have become a serious crowd crush. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Authorities have not confirmed whether similar incidents occurred at other entrances around the stadium.
The concert marked the third and final show of Jay-Z’s historic three-night run at Yankee Stadium, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his iconic album Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. The final performance also celebrated his decades-long music career.
The star-studded event featured surprise appearances from Beyoncé, Rihanna, Usher, Pharrell Williams, and Teyana Taylor, making it one of the biggest concerts of the year. The show concluded around 2:45 a.m. Monday.
Following the event, the New York Yankees, Roc Nation, and Live Nation released a joint statement thanking the NYPD and Yankee Stadium security teams for prioritizing the safety of everyone attending the concert.
