JoJo Siwa’s Response to ‘SNL’ Spoofing Her Bold Transformation
“Truly iconic,” she exclaims.
During the Weekend Update segment, Chloe Fineman took on the role of Siwa. Mimicking the “Karma” singer’s black sequined outfit, distinctive makeup, hairstyle, and signature dance moves showcased in her viral music video.
“You got it, Colin, I’m the rebel now,” Fineman declares, flashing the rock gesture with a wide grin.
Channeling the 20-year-old’s voice, Fineman elucidated to Colin Jost that the transformation signifies a “significant shift.”
“I used to be all rainbows and glitters, now I’m all black and glitters. I’m like a figure skater gone rogue,” she quips.
Fineman jests that she’s entered her “rebel phase” now.
The skit also took a playful jab at Siwa’s recent headline-making statement about wanting to pioneer a new music genre, dubbed “gay pop.” The remark stirred controversy within the LGBTQ+ music community. (Siwa later clarified her intention, advocating for greater representation of LGBTQ+ artists in mainstream music.)
“But JoJo, did you really claim to invent a new music genre?” Jost queries.
“That’s correct — gay pop,” Fineman retorts.
“I believe that’s just pop,” Jost chuckles in response.
The sketch poked fun at both Siwa’s current image and her earlier “8-year-old” persona. Nonetheless, the former child star dubbed it “iconic.”
“I’m literally at a loss for words. This is insane. A 3-and-a-half-minute segment on SNL…” Siwa expressed on her Instagram story alongside the clip.
