Jonathan Majors: Assault trial of Jonathan Majors opens in Manhattan with competing stories of violent confrontation
Jonathan Majors, known for his role as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” is facing a misdemeanor harassment charge in a trial that concluded on Dec. 14, 2023. The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Kelli Galaway, argued that Majors physically assaulted his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, pushing her forcefully into a car after she discovered his infidelity.
The defense countered with accusations of Jabbari fabricating lies, portraying the case as racially motivated. Majors, emotionally responding, was defended by his lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, who claimed the fear of racial bias in calling 911 had been realized.
The incident, leading to Majors’ arrest in March, involved a struggle in a private car where Jabbari allegedly snatched Majors’ phone to examine a flirty text. Testimony included Jabbari’s account of physical abuse, supported by surveillance footage showing Majors pushing her into a vehicle.
The jury began deliberations to determine Majors’ fate, with key evidence relying on Jabbari’s credibility. The driver, the sole witness, was criticized for bias, being paid by Majors. The prosecution emphasized past behavior, including Majors discouraging Jabbari from seeking medical attention in a prior incident, framing the alleged assault as part of a pattern of “manipulation and abuse.” If convicted, Majors could face up to a year in prison.
