‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Roars to $30.5 Million Opening on Wednesday, Eyes Big Holiday Weekend

Box Office: ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Opens to $30.5 Million Wednesday

The dinosaurs are back – and they’re still a big draw.
Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest film in the iconic dinosaur franchise, had a strong start at the box office on Wednesday, raking in $30.5 million on its first day.

This marks the seventh film in the Jurassic series, proving once again that audiences still love a good dinosaur adventure—even four decades after the original Jurassic Park.

A Promising Holiday Run

Universal Pictures is expecting Jurassic World Rebirth to bring in $133 million over the long Fourth of July holiday weekend (Wednesday through Sunday). Of that, around $80 million is predicted to come just from the traditional Friday-Sunday weekend.

That’s impressive, but not quite on par with previous entries in the franchise:

  • Jurassic World (2015) opened with a massive $208 million
  • Fallen Kingdom (2018) made $148 million
  • Dominion (2022) debuted at $145 million

And those films earned their totals in just three days, compared to Rebirth’s projected five-day run. The numbers suggest that while interest remains high, the dinosaur frenzy may be slowing a bit.

Stronger Reviews Than Last Time

Unlike the poorly received Dominion, critics are responding more positively to Rebirth. Many praised it for being scarier and more exciting, with a tighter storyline and better character development.

The cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, who must survive a new round of dinosaur mayhem. The movie is directed by Gareth Edwards, known for Rogue One and Godzilla, with a screenplay by David Koepp, the original Jurassic Park writer.

Budget and Box Office Goals

Jurassic World Rebirth cost $180 million to make—considerably less than Dominion’s whopping $250 million budget. That means the film doesn’t need to reach the $1 billion mark like some of its predecessors to be considered a hit.

With a smaller budget and a strong opening, Universal is hopeful that this movie could kick off a new trilogy in the franchise.

The Competition: Brad Pitt’s ‘F1’

Jurassic World Rebirth will face competition from Apple Original Films’ F1, a $250 million racing drama starring Brad Pitt.

F1 made $57 million during its debut and is expected to earn around $30–$35 million in its second weekend. While that’s far less than what Rebirth is pulling in, Apple’s massive resources mean it doesn’t feel the same financial pressure that traditional studios do.
