Henry Ruggs sentenced to prison for 3 plus years in fatal DUI crash | CTV News
Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III has been sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for a fatal crash that occurred in 2021. Ruggs pleaded guilty to a felony count of DUI resulting in death and misdemeanor manslaughter related to the incident. The crash took place on November 2, 2021, when Ruggs, intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 percent, was driving his Corvette at 156 mph and collided with a Toyota RAV4, resulting in the death of Tina Tintor, 23, and her dog. Tintor suffered thermal injuries after the car caught fire.
Ruggs’ attorneys fought against introducing certain evidence, such as his elevated blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash, but their objections were unsuccessful. Ruggs, who expressed sorrow for the loss of Ms. Tintor, entered a plea agreement with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office to avoid a trial and could be eligible for parole after three years.
Tintor, a Serbian immigrant, had aspirations of a career in computer programming and was close to obtaining U.S. citizenship. The tragedy led to Ruggs’ dismissal from the Raiders just hours after the incident. Despite the sentencing, Ruggs’ legal team conveyed his intention to take responsibility, serve his time, and contribute positively to the community.
