Catherine, Princess of Wales, has shared an encouraging update on her cancer treatment and chemotherapy progress in a rare public statement. The former Kate Middleton revealed in March that she was diagnosed with cancer following a planned abdominal surgery in January. At that time, she mentioned being in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy.
In a new statement on June 14, Catherine shared that she is making “good progress” but still has “a few more months” of chemotherapy ahead. She candidly described her experience, noting that she has “good days and bad days” during her ongoing treatment.

Alongside her health update, the palace released a new photo of Catherine. In the image, she is seen wearing jeans and a tan blazer, looking thoughtful while standing against a tree. The picture underscores her message of strength and resilience during this challenging time.
In her message, Catherine expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received. “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she said. “On those bad days, you feel weak, tired, and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
She emphasized that her treatment is ongoing and will continue for several more months. Despite the challenges, she finds joy in engaging with school life, spending time on activities that bring her energy and positivity, and doing some work from home when she feels up to it.
Catherine also acknowledged the need for patience and understanding, both from herself and those around her. “I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she shared. “Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak responded to her statement with words of encouragement. “The Princess of Wales’ statement will be especially meaningful to those who are fighting cancer and for their families,” Sunak said on June 14. “They will recognize the same struggle in her words and draw hope and inspiration from her strength. I know the whole country is behind her.”
Kate Middleton to Attend Trooping the Colour 2024
In addition to her health update, Catherine confirmed her attendance at King Charles III’s birthday parade, known as Trooping the Colour, on June 15. She expressed her hope to join a few public engagements over the summer but acknowledged that she is “not out of the woods yet.”
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson conveyed King Charles III’s delight at her planned attendance. “The Princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events, and is much looking forward to all elements of the day,” the spokesperson stated.
Trooping the Colour celebrates the king’s birthday, although Charles’ actual birthday is in November. The June 15 event will see Charles at the center of the festivities, having returned to public duties in April after undergoing his own cancer treatment earlier this year.
Catherine will join the parade alongside her husband, Prince William, and their children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. The family will arrive in a carriage down the Mall, and Catherine is also expected to appear on the balcony.
She missed the Colonel’s Review on June 8, a dress rehearsal for Trooping the Colour, where she was represented by James Bucknall. Catherine, who was named the honorary colonel of the Irish Guards in 2023, sent an apology note to the Irish Guards for her absence.
This will be her first royal event since her family’s annual Christmas church outing in 2023. Although she has been working from home occasionally, Trooping the Colour marks her return to public royal appearances.

In her heartfelt message, Catherine expressed her gratitude and determination. “I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times,” she said. She concluded with a note of hope, “Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”
