Kiss sells brand and songs in multimillion-dollar deal
The hard rock band Kiss has sold its back catalogue of songs, along with its brand and intellectual property, to a Swedish music investor for over $300 million. This sale signifies their retirement from live performances. Similar deals have been made by other music legends like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, who sold their catalogues for hundreds of millions. Pophouse Entertainment, the buyer, gains rights not only to Kiss’s music but also their entire brand, allowing for future AI-generated content. Kiss, known for hits like “Rock and Roll All Nite,” has sold over 100 million records since its founding in 1973. Gene Simmons, one of the band’s founders, emphasized the collaborative nature of the deal and stressed the importance of partnering with the right people. He and co-founder Paul Stanley will remain closely involved in brand development. Kiss’s extensive branding history includes products ranging from coffee to coffins, but Simmons joked about certain limits to their branding ventures.
