Lindsay Lohan Pays Homage to This OG ‘Freaky Friday’ Look
More than 20 years after Freaky Friday first hit theaters, Lindsay Lohan has brought a wave of nostalgia to fans—this time, right from the red carpet.
At the London premiere of Disney’s Freakier Friday, the highly anticipated sequel, Lohan turned heads by recreating one of the film’s most iconic looks. She posed alongside her co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, with whom she’s reprising her role as Anna Coleman, while Curtis returns as Tess Coleman. The two looked thrilled to be back together, striking playful poses as purple and green confetti floated down—colors that cleverly echoed the original movie’s poster.
A Throwback Look With a Sparkle
Lohan’s outfit was a direct nod to her character’s unforgettable closing scene from the 2003 film. Designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, the custom lavender metal mesh gown shimmered with Swarovski crystals. She completed the look with a sparkling guitar-shaped purse by Judith Leiber—a tribute to her character’s band in the movie, Pink Slip.
The dress was inspired by a lilac lace-trimmed two-piece from 1990s label Mandalay, originally designed by Genevieve Tyrrell for the first Freaky Friday movie. In the film’s final scene, Anna rocks out at her mom’s wedding, and her outfit became instantly iconic for fans.
Saint Sernin, clearly a longtime fan, shared on Instagram:
“I’ve been dreaming and manifesting this moment for nearly 20 years.”
He also gave a shoutout to Lohan’s stylist, Andrew Mukamal, known for his standout work with Margot Robbie during the Barbie press tour.
Lohan Keeps the Nostalgia Going
This isn’t the first time Lohan has channeled Anna Coleman recently. Just last month, she was seen in a black leather mini skirt and a “Pink Slip” t-shirt, another clear callback to her character’s band. She even sported a faux band merch tee during the film’s press tour, fully embracing her ‘Freaky Friday’ roots.
A Sequel Made for the Fans
The return of Freaky Friday joins a growing list of nostalgic reboots—from Beetlejuice to Jurassic World Rebirth. And the cast knows how much the original means to audiences.
Curtis shared with the BBC that the film’s global appeal was a big reason she said yes to the sequel. Lohan added,
“The fans love the movie. And that’s really important. It makes you want to do it again.”
And for designer Sernin, this red carpet moment was more than fashion—it was personal.
“It’s a full-circle moment for me,” he wrote. “I feel overwhelmed with joy and love right now.”
