Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses Hands-On: A Glimpse Into the Future of Wearable Tech

Meta Connect 2025 LIVE — Meta Ray-Ban Display, Oakley Meta Vanguard sport glasses and everything announced | Tom’s Guide

For years, “smart glasses” sounded futuristic but rarely lived up to the hype. Now, Meta’s new Ray-Ban Display glasses come closer than ever to delivering what people have been waiting for: everyday glasses with a functional, built-in screen.

A Display That Actually Works

Unlike full-blown augmented reality (AR) headsets, these glasses keep things simple. The display is built into just one lens (the right side) with a 20-degree field of view. It’s not as wide as Meta’s Orion prototype, but it feels sharp, practical, and—most importantly—usable.

At 42 pixels per degree, images look crisp, even outdoors, thanks to automatic brightness adjustment. Better yet, the display is nearly invisible to anyone looking at you, so you won’t have glowing lenses giving you away.

Design and Comfort

The glasses cost $799 and weigh 69 grams—slightly heavier than Meta’s previous Ray-Ban models, but still comfortable. They don’t look bulky either, and the new “sand” color option makes them more stylish than the usual black smart glasses.

Smart Controls with the Neural Band

The included Meta Neural Band wristband makes controlling the glasses surprisingly intuitive. It reads subtle hand and wrist movements, letting you swipe, tap, or even rotate your fingers like a volume knob. You can:

  • Navigate apps
  • Adjust volume
  • Call up Meta AI
  • Control features without saying “Hey Meta” aloud

What They Can Do

The display helps cut down on phone use by showing:

  • Incoming texts
  • Navigation directions with map previews
  • Calendar reminders
  • Video call previews and camera framing

One standout feature is Conversational Focus, which provides live captions of what someone is saying—perfect for noisy environments, accessibility, or even real-time translations.

The Everyday Experience

During a short 30-minute test, the glasses already felt like a glimpse of the future. They won’t replace your phone yet, but with a discreet, sharp display and intuitive controls, the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses are the most practical step forward in smart eyewear so far.
