Meta Snags Top AI Expert from Apple – A Game Changer in the AI Arena | AI News
Meta is doubling down on artificial intelligence and has just made a big move: the company has hired two top AI researchers from Apple, Mark Lee and Tom Gunter, to join its newly formed Superintelligence Labs team. This comes as part of Meta’s larger push to lead the race in developing AI systems that could one day be smarter than humans.
According to Bloomberg News, Lee has already started at Meta, while Gunter is expected to join him soon. Both worked closely with Ruoming Pang, another high-profile AI leader who recently left Apple for a multi-million-dollar offer at Meta. Pang previously led Apple’s Foundation Models team, which was focused on building advanced AI tools.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, isn’t alone in this talent hunt—other tech giants are also investing big in top AI minds. But Meta seems especially determined. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced plans to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on massive AI data centers to support the company’s AI ambitions.
In fact, Zuckerberg himself is reportedly leading Meta’s aggressive efforts to recruit top AI researchers. His new project, Superintelligence Labs, aims to make major breakthroughs in artificial general intelligence—technology that could potentially think, reason, and learn like a human, or even better.
While Meta didn’t comment on the new hires, and Apple has yet to respond, this move clearly signals that the AI talent war is heating up fast.
