Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams passed away at the age of 36, as confirmed by his agent, Hadley Engelhard. Williams had been in intensive care at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, following an accident at a construction site in Hillsborough County, which left him partially paralyzed. He was taken off a ventilator a few days before his death, according to Tierney Lyle, the mother of his 8-year-old daughter.

Williams, originally from Buffalo, New York, rose to prominence in 2010 when he was drafted in the fourth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his debut season, he made a significant impact by catching 65 passes for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns, setting a single-season club record for touchdown receptions. His performance earned him second place in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Throughout his NFL career, Williams recorded 223 catches for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns in 63 games, with the majority of his time spent with the Buccaneers and a brief stint with the Buffalo Bills in 2014. He was last associated with the Kansas City Chiefs during part of the 2016 offseason.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers expressed their condolences, stating, “We are saddened to hear of the untimely death of Mike Williams, which has left our organization, his former teammates, and fans with heavy hearts.” The football community mourns the loss of a talented player whose career was tragically cut short.
