A judge declared a mistrial in the murder trial of Karen Read, who is accused of killing her police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, by hitting him with her car while intoxicated and leaving the scene. The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict despite multiple attempts and being given a “dynamite charge” to continue deliberations. The case included accusations of a police cover-up and investigative misconduct. Read’s attorney argued that the charges were false and vowed to keep fighting. The prosecution intends to retry the case with a new jury.
