“Modi 3.0: Historic Third Term with a Diverse New Cabinet”

PM Modi Oath Ceremony Highlights: Lok Sabha Elections 2024, BJP, Congress, INDIA Alliance, June

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath today along with 72 ministers of the new coalition government. Thirty of them are Cabinet Ministers, five hold independent charge, and 36 are Ministers of State. The specific portfolios will be announced at a later time.

Historic Third Term for Modi

PM Modi, 73, now heads a coalition government in his third term, referred to as Modi 3.0, marking the first time he leads a coalition since becoming Prime Minister in 2014. His victory followed a decisive “Brand Modi” campaign, succeeding a decade of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) governance. Modi becomes the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to be elected for a third consecutive term.

The oath-taking ceremony occurred on the Rashtrapati Bhavan lawns under the forecast of a scorching 42-degree Celsius day in the national capital.

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to PM Modi, followed by Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah. Nitin Gadkari was the fourth leader to take the oath, with JP Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, and Manohar Lal Khattar following suit.

Diverse Representation in the Cabinet

HD Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular), taking the oath after Khattar, became the first ally leader to be sworn in, followed by Janata Dal (United) leader Lalan Singh. From the northeast, Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju were among the leaders sworn in today.

Virendra Kumar, an eight-time MP and prominent Scheduled Castes representative from Madhya Pradesh’s Tikamgarh reserved seat, was also inducted. The ceremony saw enthusiastic applause and cheers from supporters as each leader approached the stage to be administered the oath.

Significant Inductions Highlight Ceremony

The induction of Jyotiraditya Scindia into the Modi 3.0 council cements his significance within the BJP, especially since his departure from Congress four years ago. This marks his second tenure in the Union cabinet.

Hardeep Singh Puri, a former diplomat who played a crucial role in navigating India through recent oil crises, was among the ministers sworn in today.

Chirag Paswan, chief of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), has affirmed his position as the “real” political heir of his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, with his induction into the Narendra Modi government. This move signals a significant comeback in Bihar’s politically dynamic landscape.

Regional Leaders Attend Ceremony

The event saw attendance from leaders of India’s neighboring countries and the Indian Ocean Region, including Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The new cabinet’s composition underscores the diverse and inclusive approach of Modi 3.0, aiming to address a broad spectrum of national and regional interests. As the nation awaits the announcement of the portfolios, the new government’s direction and priorities will soon become clearer.
