Nicole Scherzinger, the star of *Sunset Blvd.* on Broadway, has apologized after receiving backlash over a post-election social media comment. The incident happened following the announcement of Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, which he won against Vice President Kamala Harris. Scherzinger’s comment came in response to a photo of comedian Russell Brand wearing a MAGA-style hat that said “Make Jesus First Again.” Scherzinger wrote, “Where do I get this hat!!!?”
The comment quickly sparked controversy, with many interpreting it as a sign of her support for Trump. Scherzinger later took to her Instagram Story on November 8 to address the situation and offer an apology. She explained that her comment was made without realizing the potential political interpretation. “I deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts,” she wrote. “When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion.”
Scherzinger went on to clarify that her actions were never meant to endorse any political agenda. She emphasized that the assumptions about her beliefs do not reflect her true values. “Many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for,” Scherzinger added. “Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most.”
In her message, Scherzinger also expressed her support for these communities, stating that she has always stood by them throughout her life and career. “If you know me, you know that,” she continued. Scherzinger further explained that her engagement with the post was motivated by her faith. “Like so many others, in times of adversity and uncertainty, I turn to my faith,” she said. She believed that the posts she engaged with were about spreading love and faith, especially the message of “putting Jesus first.” Scherzinger noted that for her, Christ represents peace, compassion, hope, and unconditional love, values that are especially important during times of division.
Scherzinger finished her apology by reiterating her commitment to unity and love. “I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together,” she said. “It’s so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever.”
Despite the controversy, Scherzinger remains a celebrated figure in the entertainment industry. She is currently receiving praise for her performance as Norma Desmond in the Broadway revival of *Sunset Blvd.* at the St. James Theatre.
