AI Industry Shakeup: Sam Altman’s Transition from OpenAI to Microsoft
Microsoft has hired Sam Altman, the ousted co-founder of OpenAI, to enhance its artificial intelligence innovation. Altman’s move to Microsoft, along with co-founder Greg Brockman, signifies a major shift in the landscape of artificial intelligence, given Microsoft’s $13 billion investment in OpenAI. The latter will experience significant changes, appointing Emmett Shear, former Twitch CEO, as interim CEO. Shear acknowledges the damaged reputation of OpenAI due to Altman’s firing and commits to conducting an investigation into the events leading to it.
Altman’s firing was attributed to a lack of “candor” with the board, and tensions with the research division, specifically Ilya Sutskever. Despite initial speculation of Altman’s return, his decision to join Microsoft ended such conjectures.
