Elton John pays tribute to “true legend” Ozzy Osbourne
The world of rock is in mourning as legendary musician Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at the age of 76. Known as the “Prince of Darkness,” Ozzy died peacefully on Tuesday, surrounded by his family, after years of battling health issues. His passing comes just weeks after his emotional final performance in Birmingham, where he reunited with his iconic band, Black Sabbath.
In a heartfelt message, Ozzy’s family said, “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our privacy at this time.”
As the news spread, tributes began pouring in from some of the biggest names in music:
Alice Cooper shared his deep sorrow, saying, “The whole world is mourning Ozzy tonight. He was and will always be a rock ‘n’ roll legend.” Cooper described Ozzy as both the “Prince of Darkness” onstage and a “court jester” to his close friends and family. “Rock ‘n’ roll is a family,” he added. “And when we lose one of our own, it bleeds.”
Elton John also paid tribute on Instagram, calling Ozzy “a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods.” He remembered him not just as a music legend, but as “one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.” Elton sent love and condolences to Sharon Osbourne and the entire family.
Mick Jones of Foreigner looked back on his decades-long friendship with Ozzy: “We’ve been through it all together—writing songs, laughing until dawn. He always had a wicked sense of humor and a kind heart.” Jones recalled the special moment when both he and Ozzy were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, saying, “Just glad we got to share that.”
Despite his larger-than-life persona and often outrageous stage antics, those who knew Ozzy personally remember his warmth, humor, and heart. He wasn’t just a rock icon—he was family to the music world.
As the lights dim on a legendary career, fans and fellow musicians around the globe are left with unforgettable memories, timeless music, and the spirit of a man who changed rock forever.
